
Mechanical Engineer

Summary: XTERRA is seeking a full-time mechanical engineer who is passionate about working on space hardware to join their team in support of satellite deployment system design, actuator design, satellite structure design, deployables design, mechanism design, launch vehicle adapter design, manufacturing, and testing with a focus on structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses as well as engineering testing. This position requires a strong background in statics, dynamics, material science, and finite element analysis. Applicant must have hands-on experience and be self-motivated to complete jobs with above average attention to detail and quality of work.

Must be willing to work 40+ hours a week when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

B.S. in Engineering, Physics, or Equivalent Experience

3+ Years of experience in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment

Mechanical design & design for manufacturing experience
-
Strong foundation in statics, dynamics, and thermal analysis
-
Ability to perform hand calculations in aforementioned disciplines

Ability to create custom analytical tools as needed with Excel, MATLAB, or Python, etc.

Strong understanding of material science

Emphasis on knowledge of high strength stainless steels & aluminum alloys

Corrosion, corrosion cracking, and fatigue

Strong understanding of vibration and shock

Experience with accurate setup of complex, assembly and part level finite element models for both static and frequency analysis and correlation of models to real-world test results

Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks simulation or sufficient experience with equivalent software and ability to rapidly learn SolidWorks

Fabrication and assembly drawing creation with GD&T per ASME y14.5
